Bag Care

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR EXOTIC SKIN HANDBAG

Most exotic skin bags use a finish called Aniline finish which keeps the leather’s natural characteristics. These finishes are very transparent and doesn’t add any pigment, making the skins very sensitive to light exposure. Below are some tips to store and protect your handbag for usage years to come.

STORING

  • Keep away from direct sunlight and halogen spot light, store in provided dust bag with silica gel when not in use.

  • Store handbags in a cool dry place to avoid humidity causing the growth of mould.

  • Do not store light-colored leather directly next to a dark-colored leather as the darker shade could 'migrate' or rub off and cause irreversible damage.

  • Avoid rain. If it gets wet, use dry, clean towel or cloth to absorb the water, then leave it in a place with good ventilation to air dry. A fan can be used to speed up drying process but avoid using hair dryer, which may cause the skin to crack.

  • Avoid contact with sharp objects that may cause scratches to prevent surface damage. If the leather surface is scratched lightly, speak to a specialist for a leather cream to condition product.

  • Avoid contact of leather goods with PVC to prevent dye or color migration. Always keep the exotic hand bag or leather goods in its original dust bag.

STAINS & CLEANING

  • All instructions below are to treat mild stains, for more serious issues be sure to consult a leather specialist to ensure the stubborn stains are removed in the best way possible.

  • Avoid contact with ball-point pen ink or permanent marker. If necessary use special ink remover to remove the ink. Before treating problem area, test first on edges or hidden part to ensure the solvent in the remover will not affect the finish. Handle with care.

  • Avoid spillage or contact with coffee, wine, juice, perfume; etc. If spillage occurs, clean the affected surface with slightly damp cloth immediately, then wipe gently with a piece of soft, dry cloth, and air dry completely before storage.

  • Avoid contact with oil or seasoning sauce. If there are oil stains, sprinkle a small quantity of baby powder to the surface, and rub gently with dry cloth to absorb the oil stains. If necessary repeat a few times until the darkened color has disappeared, then air dry.

  • For nubuck products, use fine bristle brush to maintain the fine, two-way nap. Use special rubber eraser to remove dirt or stains. If the stains cannot be removed, use fine buffing paper to remove the dirty part, then brush the nap.

  • When in doubt of how to best clean or maintain your handbag, consult a leather specialist for maintenance advice.
